About the resort
With its private jets, 5 star hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants, Courchevel has long been synonymous with the high life. But don’t let the resort’s exclusive reputation put you off: there are plenty of options for those of us lacking bulging wallets and platinum credit cards. Located right in the epicentre of the largest ski area in the world, Courchevel’s huge selection of runs and immaculate infrastructure make it a great choice whether its your first time on a pair of skis or you’re a seasoned expert.
Skiing in Courchevel
Courchevel is spread across four villages, each named after its heights in metres: 1850, the most luxurious of the four; 1650, 1550 and 1300. They’re linked by an efficient network of lifts and a free shuttle bus service that runs late into the night. There’s a fantastic range of slopes across the resort’s acres of crisp, white snow meaning all abilities are equally well catered for.
If you’re a little wet behind the ears when it comes to winter sports, 1650 is the best place to head for. You’ll definitely want to try out Courchevel’s innovative ‘Zen Zones’, where you can learn the ropes in a dedicated area off limits to accomplished skiers.
The quieter slopes around Chapelets and the Dou du Midi run are good for intermediate skiers, while experts are spoilt for choice with the challenging slopes of the Couloirs in 1680, the Suisses run and the off-piste Vallee des Avels.
