There are a number of ways you can reach nearby Bourg St Maurice station: The Eurostar Direct Ski services (day and overnight) offer the fastest and most direct routes, or you could change in Paris for the comfort of an SNCF sleeper service, allowing you to cram in some beauty sleep ahead of all that exhausting après-ski. Take a look at Rail Europes' Getting there section for more information about the route.
About the resort
Few places can rival the 264 (424 km) miles of piste Les Arcs has to offer in terms of sheer variety, making this popular resort the perfect choice for beginners and experts alike.
A vast complex of several timber-clad ‘villages’ located at different levels, Les Arcs also has an enviable reputation for innovation: It was the place that pioneered the ground-breaking ‘Ski Evolutif’ tuition method, which uses short skis to get beginners whizzing down the slopes in double-quick time.
Skiing in Les Arcs
Les Arcs is made up of several villages located at different levels of the mountain, with the funicular railway at Bourg-Saint-Maurice linking Arcs 1600, 1800, 1950 and 2000, as well as the nearby villages of Vallandry and Villaroger.
The sheer size of the resort means its perfectly suited to skiers of all abilities. Beginners will be heartened by the comfy chairlifts, gentle nursery slopes and reassuringly slick infrastructure, while experienced skiers will relish high-octane challenges like the Aiguille Rouge and the run from the summit of Col de la Chal.
The diversity of skiing on offer and the fantastic facilities at Les Arcs means that groups of mixed-ability skiers can pick a slope to suit their skill level and still meet up for a spot of lunch or supper. Perfect!
